My name is Sakada, and I would like to share a few personal experiences that led me to this idea of GeniusWork.

Epiphany:
We were sitting at a traffic light when my friend Ann turned to me and asked, “Are you doing your genius work?” I was speechless. But after that simple question, the idea of GeniusWork began to brew within me.

I kept asking myself, “What is it to lead your genius life, to discover and embrace your genius voice, to do your GeniusWork?” Well, the simple answer would be that it is a wonderful way to be in the world, to create your life, to feel like you are part of something bigger than yourself.

Writing and Teaching:
I teach writing because I believe in writing. I believe that by adding everyone’s stories and perspectives to the world, we will transform it, in ways that are powerful and good.

I have been teaching writing since I graduated with my MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University in 2000. At Antioch, I worked with some amazing teachers and mentors. They all, in their unique ways, opened up my visions of writing and teaching. It is then only natural that I desire to share the gifts I have received.

I have taught in a variety of situations, ranging from being a facilitator in community workshops to a full time faculty member in university graduate and undergraduate courses, both online and onsite. I was not joking earlier…I do believe in changing the world through everyone’s stories!

Energy Work and Teaching
I am a Reiki Master in a Tibetan/Usui lineage and have been practicing and teaching Reiki and other meditative/intuitive techniques for over 10 years. Working with energy and intuition has taught me many things – all resonating beyond the work itself, into my creative life and intellectual life. I came to this work because of an injury, but realize the “recovery” has taken me far beyond where I started, into new and expanded ways of thinking, being, and doing.

Coaching:
On paper, I always believed in the idea of coaching, but I also found excuses for not even trying that first free session. One day, for no reason I can explain, I put the fear aside and signed up. I have never looked back.

Coaching is the gift I give myself. The one-on-one guidance has filled me up with confidence and inspiration, which then allows me to do my GeniusWork with joy and energy. It is also the “nudge,” sometimes even the kick, that keeps me going in the face of whatever obstacles I have made into big mountains.

I am not without a great circle of friends and colleagues, yet the support of a coach, who joins me on my path, has been invaluable. I can easily say, that without the coaching I have received so far, GeniusWork itself would not have the breath it does.

GeniusWork as a Community:
Many of us have begun to gather and create a community of GeniusWorkers and I will do everything I can to support individuals and communities in embracing their own genius. Together we will create and share our GeniusWork!
